One of the World's Largest Insurers Embeds Change Management as Part of Their Culture

The Change Management Challenge

To help one of the largest insurers in the world develop a plan for ‘maturity in change management’ to become a core part of its culture globally, from Sydney to Miami.

Step 1: Discussing and Establishing the Objectives

in August 2020, Prosci Europe received a call from this organisation, asking for our strategic help to create and implement a plan of action to grow their Change Management capability and competence in every area of the globe. The objective was to help the  business baseline the level of organisational Change Management capability they currently have and then proceed to create a plan of action for the next several years to grow this maturity.

Moving forward, the focus has become one of looking at how the organisation can shift its culture to achieve greater success in the individual change projects that each region undertakes

Having a Prosci Europe subject matter expert join the steering committee offers an external voice – an authority who can advise best practise and help the business to see the bigger picture.

Step 2: The Formation of a Steering Committee

SoA major part of this process has been the formation of a Steering Committee at senior leadership level. This Steering Committee oversees Change Management capability building, and ensures the regions stay on track with their roadmaps. One of Prosci Europe's senior experts has been asked to chair this committee for its first six months, engaging with each Steering Committee member to understand their ambitions and goals for the Change Management maturity work.

Future Steps: The Formation of a Steering Committee

In 2021, a key tranche of the company’s Change Management capability growth will encompass skills-building: familiarising cohorts of staff about the importance of managing the people dependencies in change initiatives and training them on frameworks and competencies to be more successful in change. Prosci® is the organisation’s preferred methodology. We anticipate upward of 50 individuals across the organisation will attend a variety of Prosci Europe's programmes.

Some will attend our Prosci Change Management Practitioner Certification Programme, which equips clients with the toolkit and methodology needed to manage change within their company. Project Managers across key initiatives will be taking our Delivering Project Results Workshop. This immersive one-day workshop helps project managers understand and successfully achieve the people dependencies inherit in the change initiatives they are leading.

Other managers will explore Prosci’s Taking Charge of Change Workshop to help them understand the foundational aspects of change management and to take charge of change initiatives. Selected senior executives will undertake Prosci’s Sponsor Briefing Workshop, to clarify their roles as sponsors during change and gain access to easy-to-use frameworks, and building a critical and lasting connection between effective change management and business results.

At the time of writing, the relationship with the client is having a positive effect in terms of identifying and staying on track with the overall Change Management Objectives set by the organisation, with our help. The rollout of the global training programme is on track, and anticipated to be carried out virtually (as we’re still in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic). Although some
might see the virtual delivery as an obstacle, this is certainly not how we or our clients see it: many businesses have realised the benefits of online learning, and Prosci Europe is no different.

The positive feedback we receive demonstrates that virtual delivery of Prosci Europe training programmes is very effective, and also more time-efficient and cost-efficient for all parties, especially with clients of a global nature. With colleagues from Miami to Sydney excited to take the next step on their journey to achieving organisational change management maturity, we are confident that this global insurer will secure tangible successes in the future.
